ShoutSafe is a free online service designed to help you communicate with friends and family in the case of major events or disasters. ShoutSafe uses e-mails, SMS text messages and the Web to keep those who are important to you informed of your safety. There are many types of major events and disasters - from the natural, such as tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes and floods to the man-made, such as bombings and terrorism. ShoutSafe makes it easier to get your message to those you know.

Get the most out of ShoutSafe To get the most out of ShoutSafe do the following steps.

1. Create an account
When you create an account you have the ability to send messages from ShoutSafe, and view the blogs and status of friends and family. To create an account Click Here and fill in the form. When you create an account and when you log in you will go to your My Account page.

2. Edit Preferences
From your My Account page click the View link on the Preferences section. On the preferences page you can set your Personal Details, add SMS Credit and change your Password. Filling in the Personal Preferences Section is not compulsory, to use ShoutSafe, but certain parts of the site use the information. To use SMS Activated messages you will need to fill in the mobile number section with your mobile number, to use timer messages you need to set up a time zone.

3. Add Contacts
To send messages you need to add Contacts to your account. Click the View link in the Contacts section or one of the links within the sections. When you add a contacts they will be Pending until the contact accepts you as a contact. They will not be able to receive messages while they are in the pending state.

4. Send Message, Add Diary Or Add Itinerary Entry
You are now ready to use ShoutSafe. You can send messages immediately by sending SMS messages to ShoutSafe's SMS number or from the Send Now! section. You can also send messages from the Timer Messages and Messages sections.

Diary and Itinerary entries can be managed from the Diary & Itinerary section. They can be sent by SMS and/or email to your contacts just like your messages.

Messages
The heart of Shout Safe is its messaging system. This unique feature allows you to send messages to your contacts by e-mail or SMS text. You can send messages from the www.shoutsafe.com, by sending ShoutSafe an SMS or by contacting a trusted contact who can access your account.

You can also use ShoutSafe to send Timer Messages – automatic messages which can be sent at a predetermined time. The message will be sent to your contacts unless you deactivate it before it is due to be sent.

Diary
Use the ShoutSafe diary to keep a diary of your experiences. The diary allows your friends and family to follow your travels. You can add photos and video to your diary entries. Diary entries can be added through the ShoutSafe website or by sending your new diary entry by SMS to ShoutSafe.

Locations
When adding a new diary to ShoutSafe you can specify the location where the diary entry occured. Locations are linked to the maps used in ShoutSafe to see where events have occured. You can add locations through the website, but not by SMS.

Contacts
Your contacts in ShoutSafe can receive your messages as e-mails or SMS messages. If they have their own accounts with ShoutSafe, they can also view your diary and itinerary.

You can also nominate contacts to be Trusted contacts. A Trusted contact can update your status and blogs and send messages when you are not available to do it yourself. All you have to do is send word to them, and they can update your details for you, passing the information along to your entire network.

News and Incidents
ShoutSafe also contains up-to-the-minute news updates from multiple trusted sources. We receive news information from the BBC, ABC and WikiNews, filtered by the topics and events that are the most pertinent to ShoutSafe users. ShoutSafe also provides current information about disasters and events from around the world.

Help
Help is available on all ShoutSafe commands and capabilities. To get more help when using ShoutSafe, just move your mouse over a pertinent ? icon, and help will pop up.

Cards
We now have plastic cards containing essential contact information and SMS short codes. The SMS short codes are used to access your account by SMS. If you want a card please contact us through the Contact Us page.
